Resistance: Fall Of Man is a science fiction first person shooter based in 1951. You play as Sgt. Nathan Hale a United States solider sent to Britain to help the British when Russia closed their borders. Everyone thought that they were making a nuclear weapon. But the reality was much worse, and without warning the “Chimera”
Attacked.
The Chimera are a fictional alien race who are taking over the world. They were first discovered in Siberia, and at first it was thought the Chimera were a result of an experiment gone wrong. But further in the game it becomes more obvious that they are extraterrestrial in origin. They are much more stronger then humans and they have a number of yellow eyes. They are “made” by a human being infected by a virus which the Chimera carries, with, the victims slowly transforming into a Chimera. More than one human is normally required to make the larger Chimera. Due to their high metabolism they can withstand very high temperatures, and they thrive in very low temperatures. victim only slowly transforms so when the infected are changing they are taken to a conversion centre which are scattered across the earth and have cooling devices attached.
There are many weapons on Resistance; some real world weapons, some fictional Chimera weapons. The real world weapons are your more conventional weapons like machine guns, pistols and rocket launchers. The Chimera weapons are more exotic, for example the Auger is just simply a rapid fire gun until you shoot it at wall. Then you will find its true power, as this gun can fire though walls with the bullets coming out the other side stronger. The Chimera grenades are weird but wonderful as well. For example there is the “Hedgehog Grenade“, which upon exploding sends out spikes in every direction. The “Backlash Grenade” creates a dome barrier around you and reflects bullets fired at you - like the “Bubbles Shield” seen in Halo 3.
The graphics are pretty good but not the best I’ve seen on the PS3, but as a launch game you cant really complain about them. The sound is again good because when you are walking down a road you can here a helicopter get closer and when the chimera drop one of the bombs.
The multiplayer has a split screen and an online mode. The split screen mode lets you work though the campaign with a friend, which makes some of the campaign easier since with two of you there will be twice the firepower. The online mode has a maximum 40 players at a time in one match, which has really set the standard for other first person shooters. There is the usual game modes such as Death match and Team Death match. There are a variety of maps, some of which come in four different sizes, with all of the maps based on locations in England.
Resistance has had its fair share of controversy over the use of the cathedral in Manchester for a level in the story mode. In this level you are shooting off a sea of Chimera, with the Church of England threatening legal action against Sony for using the cathedral without their consent. A spokesman for the Church of England said that the use of the building was sick, and the Church of England made three demands for Sony and they were:. That all copies of the game were to be removed from the shelves, that Sony apologize for the use of the Cathedral, and that they make a substantial donation to the churches anti-gun crime program.
I think that this game has a solid story mode with a good storyline. But the campaign does get hard in places with will make you want to smash your television but when you get into it, it is a good launch game for the ps3 .The online mode has set the standard for First Person Shooters in terms of the number of players per game.
Pros:
- solid single player mode
- 40 player online mode
- great sound
Cons:
- your teammates dont really do anything
- abit hard to get used to the controls

This is a pretty solid review, with my perfectionist eyes only picking up only a few little mistakes. Keep 'em coming ;)
